JD Sports x Instamedia: Pickleball Sensor Challenge

When JD Sports approached Instamedia to energize their Inter-University Pickleball Tournament, they were looking for more than just a sports event. The objective was to craft a unique and interactive experience that would capture attention, spark excitement, and connect authentically with the student community.  Leveraging Instamedia’s IMX BespokeTM technology, we created a smart sensor-powered pickleball wall game that transformed gameplay into an engaging brand activation.

What We Set Out to Do

Our interactive wall-based game featured vibration sensors, LED light cues, and real-time scoring. Players were challenged to hit illuminated targets, which triggered sensors that updated a digital scoreboard immediately

This created a fast-paced and responsive gameplay loop that kept both participants and spectators engaged. This gamified approach increased competition and made the experience fun and easy to follow.

 

This activation is now featured as a highlight in Instamedia’s project showcase.


Why It Worked 

This activation was successful because it was intuitive, energetic, and rewarding. Visual cues helped guide players, while instant scoring provided continuous engagement. 


As noted by Snipp (2025), strong gamification strategies such as real-time feedback and social competition are essential in driving deeper brand engagement. In addition, experiential marketing continues to shift toward immersive, technology-driven encounters that prioritize real-time interaction over static messaging (Imagination, 2024). This project aligned well with that trend, delivering both brand value and user enjoyment. 

 

Final Thoughts 

This collaboration with JD Sports demonstrates how immersive technology and gamification can transform brand activation events.
