Augmented and virtual reality for brand activations in Malaysia
Instamedia builds augmented and virtual reality for launches, store openings and festive campaigns: AR that guests open on their own phones or control with their hands and body, and VR built into your set, like the VR viewfinder we made for Tommy Hilfiger. Everything is built in-house in Kuala Lumpur on IMX Engine™ and IMX Bespoke™.

Augmented reality adds digital objects to the real world through a camera. Virtual reality replaces the world with a fully digital one, seen through a headset or a viewer.
AR works for crowds: guests use their own phones, or a big screen reads their hands and body, so many people can play and share at once. VR takes one guest at a time into a fully branded world, which suits premium launches and store openings where you want a longer, more personal moment. Many campaigns use both. Our team builds every part in-house: the 3D assets, the game logic, the branded screens and the physical structure the experience sits in. Browser-based AR runs on IMX Engine™, our interactive platform. Custom installations, AR or VR, are built from scratch by the same team on IMX Bespoke™, our custom development service.
Formats
Each format comes from a real Instamedia project, with the numbers the brand saw where we have them.

Guests scan a QR code or tap a link, and the experience opens in the phone's browser with no app to install. Hennessy's Year of the Snake running game reached 5,680 players across Malaysia and Singapore and captured opt-in details for the brand's CRM. Munchy's used the same approach to let guests place, resize and photograph a 3D 'M'.

Guests step up to a screen and use hand gestures, read by motion sensors, to reveal a product in 3D. For Nike Unreal Studio by JD Sports, gestures rolled away a cluster of spheres to unveil designer Masyadi Mansoor's apparel in a 360-degree view, inside a custom-built structure with an opening door. 2,673 people experienced it over 4 days.

A camera reads the player's movements, so arms and hands become the controller, with no wearables or headsets. At the launch of Tiger's Soju flavoured lager, players sliced flying fruit with their bare hands, and the game reached 100 percent merch redemption on a tight delivery timeline.

For Tommy Hilfiger's store opening at The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur, we built VR into a binocular-style metal viewfinder on a steel pedestal, styled to the brand's nautical set. Guests leaned in to look and used a handheld controller, with no headset to strap on. We build VR in Unity, so the same experience can also run on standard VR headsets when the brief calls for it.

What's included
Products, mascots and worlds modelled by our team from your artwork, like the garments modelled from the Nike designer's drawings, or Hennessy's snake, bottle and lanterns.
UI, motion graphics and sound effects styled to your campaign, so every touchpoint looks and sounds like your brand.
Opt-in details go to your CRM, as they did for Hennessy's WebAR game, and the IMX Engine™ dashboard tracks plays, dwell time, shares, scans, leads and conversions.
WebAR is tuned for smooth performance and premium graphics across the range of devices your audience actually carries.
For in-venue AR and VR, we design and build the booth, display or viewfinder it lives in, themed to the campaign and quick to set up on site.
On-site crew run in-venue builds, and online campaigns run on our hosting, with no hardware for your guests to find.

VR experiences, and WebAR campaigns that run across several locations or markets, like Hennessy's in Malaysia and Singapore, are quoted on the brief. For in-venue screen games without AR, see our custom interactive games library.
Where it works
Tommy Hilfiger opened its store at The Gardens Mall with a VR viewfinder, and Nike's AR display was the centrepiece of a multi-day retail event hosted by JD Sports.
Nike Unreal Studio and the Tiger Soju launch both put AR at the centre of the launch, one as a product reveal and one as a game with a prize at the end.
Hennessy's running game tied AR to Chinese New Year and the Year of the Snake. The same format works for Raya, Deepavali and Christmas campaigns.
WebAR needs no hardware, so one build can run across outlets, malls and markets. Hennessy's ran in Malaysia and Singapore.

FAQ
AR adds digital objects to the real world through a phone camera or a big screen, so many guests can play and share at once. VR replaces the world with a fully digital one, seen through a headset or a viewer, and takes one guest at a time into a branded experience. We build both, and many campaigns use a mix.
WebAR is augmented reality that runs in a phone's web browser. Guests scan a QR code or tap a link and start straight away, with no app to install. Hennessy's Year of the Snake running game and Munchy's AR 'M' both ran this way.
For campaigns across several outlets or markets, WebAR on guests' phones travels furthest: Hennessy's game reached 5,680 players across Malaysia and Singapore. For a launch centrepiece, a gesture-controlled AR display draws a crowd, as Nike Unreal Studio's 360-degree apparel reveal did for 2,673 people. For a sampling booth, a body-tracking AR game turns every play into a prize moment: Tiger Soju's slicing game reached 100 percent merch redemption. For a store opening or premium launch, VR gives each guest a personal, fully branded moment, like the viewfinder we built for Tommy Hilfiger.
AR and VR experiences start from RM8,000 for a standard build on our IMX Engine™ platform, such as a WebAR game or effect restyled to your brand. Fully custom AR and VR builds on IMX Bespoke™ start from RM25,000. Campaigns across several locations or markets are quoted on the brief.
Standard builds on our IMX Engine™ platform typically take 2 to 4 weeks. Fully custom IMX Bespoke™ builds, AR or VR, take 4 to 8 weeks, planned with you from the brief. Tiger Soju's AR slicing game was delivered on a tight timeline, so tell us your date first.
For AR gesture displays and body-tracking games, no: motion sensors or a camera read the guest's hands and body, with no controllers, wearables or headsets. Our VR viewfinder for Tommy Hilfiger had the headset built into the viewer, so guests simply leaned in and used a handheld controller.
Yes. Hennessy's WebAR game captured opt-in visitor details and fed them into the brand's CRM as first-party data, and the IMX Engine™ dashboard tracks plays, dwell time, shares, scans, leads and conversions.
Yes. Hennessy's Year of the Snake WebAR game ran in both Malaysia and Singapore. Every build is made by our team in Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore projects are quoted in SGD on request.
